Cellular Repeaters/ Bi-Directional Amplifiers

Because the ZTE MF288 LTE Turbo Hub Router device has an external antenna port you could use the high gain external antenna kits above to boost your signal. However, if your outdoor signal is very weak, or you require a very long cable run to get from the outdoor antenna to the device (long runs lead to large signal loss) consider using an RF bidirectional amplifier/ repeater suitable for the supported bands and cellular operator to boost your indoor coverage:

LTE Antenna Boosters/ RF Bidirectional Amplifiers/ Repeaters/ Relays

Customize your solution

STEP 1: Determine what frequency bands your operator uses here, then click on the frequency band link to view the best ranked cellular antennas compatible with the frequency band that both your device and your cellular operator supports. Your ZTE MF288 LTE Turbo Hub Router operates on these frequency bands: LTE Band 12, LTE Band 13, LTE Band 2, LTE Band 25, LTE Band 26, LTE Band 29, LTE Band 30, LTE Band 4, LTE Band 5, LTE Band 66, LTE Band 7.

STEP 2: Determine the cable length you need from the outdoor antenna to the ZTE MF288 LTE Turbo Hub Router and configure your length here (select N-Male on both ends)

STEP 3: Determine if you need a lightning protection device. If you do, you will need a jumper cable.

STEP 4: Order the pigtail for your modem below:

PIGMF288 (NOTE: Need this pigtail to connect this device to antenna cable. It is included in preconfigured kits.)

STEP 5: If the pigtail's Connector 2 is FME-F you will need an N-Female/FME-F adapter to mate to the N-Male cable in step 2. Alternatively, select an N-Male/FME-M cable in step 2 above (more expensive and less re-usable) to avoid requiring this adapter.

Is there a way to install an external Wi-Fi antenna if I open it? Like for example an MHF series micro coaxial connector.

Yes, this is possible. The MF288 has U.FL (compatible with IPEX types) jacks for 2GHz and 5GHz you could connect U.FL plugs to. The only challenge may be to know the correct size as the U.FL series differs in sizes by small margins and also how to manage the pigtails so that the device closes correctly. Also good to note that your device warranty will be void once you take the device apart. Sample U.FL to RPSMA pigtail: https://shop.rfwel.com/laird-technologies-ca178-rsmafb-uf-ufl-rpsma-female-bulkhead-pigtail-12-.html.

where would I attach an external antenna to the MF288?

All the 5 external ports of the MF288 router are for LTE, but band support differ/slightly differ from one port to the other.
You may need to confirm which band your service provider uses in your area so as to connect the external antenna or antennas (for MIMO/diversity) to the specific port with the band support.
Here is a sample antenna kit for the device: https://shop.rfwel.com/products.php?product=50-ft-Directional-Antenna-Kit-for-ZTE-MF288-LTE-Turbo-Hub-Router&showHidden=true

All the five external antenna ports are cellular. Its Wi-Fi antennas are internal.
